Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Marine Ecology
The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a two years full-time appointment as Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Marine Ecology at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Natural Sciences. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand, Norway. However, the appointee may be required to stay partly at the Institute of Marine Research, Flødevigen (IMR), Arendal. The preferred start date is 01.04.19 (negotiable with the Department).
The Department of Natural Sciences has research groups in functional ecology and biomedicine. The groups include 7 professors, 6 associate professors and 7 researchers and currently, 5 post doctors and 5 PhD fellows are affiliated with the institute. The group at Flødevigen includes several researchers and technicians.
The Post-doctoral position is part of the institutional focus on Marine Ecology in cooperation with IMR.
The applicant is expected to work on the project “Spatial scale of ecological patterns and processes in the coastal zone: population structure, behaviour and life history of coastal Atlantic cod”. Relying on existing data from previous research projects on population genetics, mark-recapture and telemetry studies both in- and outside marine protected areas along Skagerrak, we seek to combine results from these, and expand research questions beyond previous ideas. Examples of possible projects are studies of fine-scale spatial genetic structure, patterns in survival, adaptation and behaviour. There are also available data from studies of behaviour and death-rate in relation to fishery. Common for all the projects is access to relevant data collected by IMR in the past. Initiatives based on personal interests are welcome.
Primarily, the successful candidate should hold a PhD or be able to document a confirmed date for the dissertation/defence. Applicants with a PhD in Marine Ecology or Population Genetics and good skills in statistics treating spatial, genetic and/or behavioural data will be preferred. Teaching experience from college or university level is preferable as some teaching tasks may be included.
The Post-doctoral Fellow is also expected to engage with the research group and contribute to an active research environment with opportunities for personal and professional development. The appointee must have the ability to work in a goal-oriented, organised, focused and independent manner. Candidate assessment will emphasise doctoral work, examination results as well as previous research (published papers) and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised.
Furthermore, the applicant must have written and spoken English proficiency.

The position is remunerated in the State salary plan 17.510, code 1352 Post-doctoral Research Fellow, salary NOK 544 400-682 200 gross per year. A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
