On January 1st, 2017, Bergen University College, Sogn og Fjordane University College and Stord/Haugesund University College merged to form Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

Postdoctoral fellowship in music education
Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Education, Arts and Sports, Centre for Arts, Culture and Communication, has an open position for a Postdoctoral fellowship in music education for a period of 3 years with accession autumn 2019.
The postdoctor fellow will do research on how digital tools can promote and mediate interaction between music classrooms and the outside world, and how this interaction can inform music teacher education.
The fellowship is part of a larger research project, “Music Teacher Education for the Future” (FUTURED). The focus of FUTURED is the music program of the newly established 5-year teacher education in Norway. The project aims at exploring ideologies and structures in the education of music teachers, as well as developing innovative and collaborative music teaching practices within teacher education and schools. The postdoctor project is an empiric project, and its research questions, theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches must relate to the research objectives of the FUTURED project. The FUTURED project is funded by the The Research Council of Norway. The postdoctor fellow will be included in the project group involving researchers from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and Oslo Metropolitan University, as well as international collaborators. The postdoctor fellow will also be affiliated with the research group “Culture – Criticism – Community” at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, campus Bergen, which is part of the strategic research programme Arts, Creativities and Cultural Practices (KKKP).
The appointed postdoctor fellow must have a PhD (or equivalent), preferably within music education. Other academic backgrounds from the humanities or social sciences will be considered. The applicant must have obtained a PhD degree or submitted their doctoral thesis before the application deadline, and a doctorate must be obtained before formal appointment.
Applicants must submit a preliminary project description of up to five pages that presents the topic, problem, choice of theoretical perspective and methodological approaches, as well as a project and publication plan. The preliminary project description will be used for evaluating the application, but will not be considered the final project description. The final project will be developed in consultation with the project leader and the project group.
It is a requirement that the successful candidate has her/his workplace at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. Proficiency in English and/or a Scandinavian language is required.
The following will be emphasised during evaluation:
The quality of the proposed project, how it corresponds with the FUTURED project research objectives, professional qualifications in the designated area, that is, the quality of prior projects/publications and methodological qualifications, as well as a realistic project and publication plan. The hired postdoctor fellow is expected to present and publish internationally. A maximum of 5 publications may be attached. Applicants must document independence and good collaborative skills.

Applicants should indicate which publications or parts of publications should be given special consideration in the evaluation. If the documents submitted are not in a Scandinavian language or in English, the applicants must submit certified translations of these.

The position is remunerated at code 1352, Postdoctoral fellow position. A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the regulations for State Employees and Civil Servants in Norway. Organizational changes and changes in the duties and responsibilities associated with the position must be expected.
