Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Electrical Power Engineering for Renewable Energy
The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a full-time permanent position as Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Electrical Power Engineering for Renewable Energy at the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is located at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable.
The University of Agder has well recognized PhD, Master’s and Bachelor’s degree(s) programs in Renewable Energy. The focus is integration of renewable energy sources in the power system and it is a core element in the curriculum of both bachelor’s and master’s degree(s) programs.
The Faculty’s academic activities in electrical energy systems are increasing, namely UiA is involved on Agder Electric City initiative that joins the main local industry and public partners with the aim of turning Agder in the world's first region where all energy use is electric and renewable. The Faculty also collaborates with regional, national and international organizations for research projects.
To strengthen the role of electric power engineering within the context of renewable energy, the university now wishes to appoint a Professor/Associate/Assistant Professor in Electrical Power Engineering for Renewable Energy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and supervise students’ projects in a wide spectrum of subjects in electric power engineering. It is also expected that the successful candidate can further develop the new Integrated Energy System Management – IESM Lab, is active in research, can contribute both in ongoing research projects, and by defining new ones for obtaining competitive research grants. In addition, university expects a good colleague who can contribute in building of the institution together with other colleagues. It is an advantage to have knowledge about the Nordic energy system and to speak a Scandinavian language.
Relevant specializations for the position at the university is a strong background in electrical energy systems, digital power systems, power electronics, electro-mechanical energy conversion and electromagnetics.
Applicants must be able to document teaching qualifications in the form of university-level teaching seminars or other university teacher education. Applicants who lack formal teacher training qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications, or complete UiA's Foundation Course in Education for University Lecturers, within two years of accepting the appointment.
The language of instruction is Norwegian and English. The successful candidate must be proficient in oral and written English, and preferably Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language).
Applicants who do not speak Norwegian or another Scandinavian language are expected to acquire the necessary proficiency to lecture in Norwegian. The University of Agder offers Norwegian language courses to international employees and facilitates participation in such courses. Permanently employed staff is expected to acquire good command of oral and written Norwegian within a period of two years.

The degree(s) from a university, university college or the equivalent must be in electrical power engineering
The successful applicant will have rights and obligations in accordance with the current regulations for the Civil Service. Organizational changes and changes in the duties and responsibilities of the position must be expected.
Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and a demonstration of their teaching competence, usually in the form of a trial lecture. With the applicant’s permission, UiA will also conduct a reference check before the appointment. The University of Agder’s Appointments Committee makes appointments for teaching and research positions.

The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1013/1532 Professor, gross salary per year NOK 631 700-922 300, code 1011/1198 Associate Professor, gross salary per year NOK 544 400-658 300 or code 1009 Assistant Professor, gross salary per year NOK 497 000-586 300. Higher salary may be offered to applicants with superior qualifications. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
