NTNU - knowledge for a better world

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) creates knowledge for a better world and solutions that can change everyday life.

Postdoc position in Food Proteomics

A two-year Postdoc position in Food Proteomics is available at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science (IBT). The position is financed by an internal strategic initiative at IBT to strengthen the Food Proteomics research.

Information about the department
The current research fields at the Department includes Microbial Biotechnology, Analysis and Control of Microbial Systems, Food Science, and Biopolymers and Biomaterials. Further information is available at http://www.ntnu.edu/biotech/research. The post doc candidate will be associated with the Food Science and Microbial Biotechnology research divisions.

Job description
The post doc will work with mass spectrometry (MS) based Proteomics on food related topics; thus complementing existing research projects in the Food Science and Microbial Biotechnology research divisions with qualitative or quantitative proteomics. Current main projects focus on exploitation of rest raw materials and by-products and understanding processes taking place in food raw materials during processing and storage. In-depth characterization of protein/ peptide pool compositions and modifications is important to improve current processes and development of new processes/ products. In addition to method development and sample analyses, it is  expected that a significant part of the work will be on data processing (e.g. data base searches, bioinformatics, multivariate analysis, protein/ peptide identifications, modifications in proteins and peptides due to processing, ). The MS work will be performed in the NV Mass Spectrometry lab (https://www.ntnu.edu/nv-mslab) currently equipped with six MS instruments and GC, UPLC, capillary UPLC, UPC2, capillary ion chromatography separation technologies and software for advanced processing of both low molecular weight analytes (Metabolomics), lipids (Lipidomics), 13C-label experimentation (Fluxomics) and protein/ peptides (Proteomics).

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD in food science, analytical biochemistry, biotechnology or similar fields. Experience with using liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry instrumentation and, in particular, Proteomics work-flow is preferred. Alternatively, applicants with a strong track record in protein/ peptide chemistry related to food can be evaluated. In either case, ability to work with large data sets including bioinformatics is highly desired. The applicant must document ability to work independently and in groups, and ability to publish scientific papers. Experience with supervision of students and writing project proposals is considered an advantage.

Terms of employment
The appointment of the Postdocs will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.

The position as Postdoc is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.

The application
Applications with CV, certificates from both Bachelor and Master, publications and other scientific works, certified copies of transcripts, (certified copies of documentation on English language proficiency (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) ) and reference letters should be submitted electronically through link at this page.  Applications submitted elsewhere will not be considered.

The reference number of the position is: NV-95/18.

Application deadline:  1st. Nov 2018.
