The Department of Computer Science (IDI) has about 246 employees including 33 professors, 38 associate professors, 13 adjunct associate professors, 18 assistant professors, 30 postdoctoral researchers, approximately 90 active PhD. students, and 23 technical/administrative staff. More than 7,000 students study one or more courses at the department each year. IDI has offices in both Trondheim and Gjøvik, and the position described in this announcement will be located in Trondheim. Background for the position
Over the last years, big data technologies have gradually found their way into mainstream information systems. A main result of the ongoing digitalization is the possibility of disruptions brought about by the abundance of big data sources on government and business services, their users and customers, as well as the environments in which they are generated. This data abundance creates new opportunities to develop smart and personalized information systems, but also raises new challenges for information systems engineers. To get organizational value and derive knowledge from big data, one needs to take into consideration many perspectives and focus on the combination of people – processes and technology.
To get value from big data in an organizational setting, knowledge about the core statistical and computer science techniques is not always sufficient. As the amount of available data continues to increase, so does the demand for professionals who have the necessary skills to manage and analyze this data. It is commonly acknowledged, that the biggest challenge faced in light of the data revolution is finding people with the required set of skills to transform data into actionable insight.
The applicant should have knowledge for at least 3 or more of the following areas
Structuring and analyzing content (web-based, sensor-based) in a meaningful way suitable for timely decision making in agile and proactive enterprises
Foresee and analyse the impacts of data in an organizational context
Techniques for working with high volumes of unstructured data
Data and knowledge visualization and derive knowledge from data
Design Science and Service design
Data-enabled business model development and innovation
Data-driven personalized information systems
Expertise in these areas can be based on work in related fields such as big data analytics, semantic web, data and process mining, knowledge modelling, service innovation, design science, emergent enterprise modeling and enterprise architecture.

Requirements and qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate in one of the above-mentioned areas.
Applicants should have a solid list of peer reviewed publications within one or more of these fields. Documented research funding from relevant sources and experience from leading research projects will be added weight. Further emphasis will be placed on educational skills and education. This assessment will be based on documented pedagogical competence, including educational education / experience, form of presentation in scientific work, experience from supervision and teaching, as well as educational background of another kind. In the assessment, both quality and breadth will be considered.
The candidate's personal aptitude and motivation for the position will be assigned great weight in the selection process.
Newly employed academic staffs who do not already master a Scandinavian language are required to obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within three years of taking up the position. This must be of a standard equivalent to Level 3 in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided by the Department of Linguistics. Courses are available at the University.

Joint works will also be evaluated. If it is difficult to identify the contributions from individuals in a scientific collaboration, applicants are to enclose a short summary of her/his contribution.

After the application deadline, a shortlist of applicants will be drawn up, and all applicants will be informed as to whether or not they have made the list. An expert committee will evaluate all shortlisted applicants. The top applicants from this evaluation will be invited for interviews and trial lectures.
The successful applicant should start before 1st of January 2019, but an earlier start date is preferable.
Academic staff employed without prior formal pedagogical qualifications in university-level teaching, are required to complete a recognized course that gives a pedagogical qualification within two years of taking up the appointment. NTNU offers such courses.

Associate professor follows code 1198 with gross salary level 490 900 - 722 400 per year depending on seniority and qualifications. 2% of the salary is deducted as a compulsory contribution to the Government Pension Fund.
