Ved NTNU, Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet, skapes kunnskap for en bedre verden og løsninger som kan forandre hverdagen. 

NTNU is now announcing 44 PhD positions to pursue transformative research on the development and application of digital transformation technology. These positions are distributed among 9 multidisciplinary projects with 4-6 PhD-positions involving 2-5 tenured researchers from at least two faculties with supervisor/co-supervisor roles. In total, we have supervisors/co-supervisors from all of our faculties including our university museum.

6 PhD positions - A Digital Twin for Essential Hypertension Management and Treatment

By a novel combination of exercise-, hypertension-, mathematical modelling-, machine learning-, statistical-, biosensor-, genetic epidemiology- and population based research we will develop a personalized Medical Digital Twin (MyMDT) that serve as a transformative platform for patient specific hypertensive intervention. MyMDT shall identify, and implement, primary and secondary hypertension prevention schemes to improve individual health outcomes and reduce health care cost. MyMDT aim to radically improve prevention and treatment of hypertension. Six PhD positions are available in this project.

The positions are fixed term, full time (100 %) for 4 years, where one of these years is allocated for mandatory teaching of classes.

The candidates are expected to start in the autumn 2018.

All the six successful PhD candidates linked to this project are expected to work and collaborate closely thought the duration of the project. Sharing knowledge, experience and research is the key to a successful result.


Two positions relating to this project are available at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences:

- Intervention strategies for hypertensives based on medical digital twins and

- Hypertension plasticity in response to physical activity


Two positions are available at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering:

- Physics-informed Statistical Machine Learning for sensor-acquired big data and

- Deep Learning for your Smart Cardiovascular Twin


The last two positions are available at the Faculty of Engineering:

- Robust cardiovascular models using minimal data sets for prediction of hypertension and

- Sensor technology for model learning and as robust in situ data source from patients
