Job descriptions

For a new project in collaboration with SINTEF on biomass to liquid fuels via the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis we need 3 dedicated and skillful researchers. The positions are full-time and located in Trondheim.

A. Postdoctoral fellowship in modelling and plant design

The work will involve conceptual process design, optimization of the design, equipment size and operational conditions, using simulation tools like Hysys/UniSim or similar, and techno-economical assessments. Other tasks involve programming in Matlab/Python, dealing with heat integration and steam cycles, integration of other energy sources, and kinetic modelling. B. Postdoctoral fellow in catalysis

The work is linked to the development and validation of a kinetic model for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over a cobalt-based catalyst, and will involve kinetic studies, model development and model fitting, and experimental validation of a new process concept. The fellowship is funded for 2 years.

C. PhD-fellowship in chemical engineering

The candidate will be involved in both experimental and theoretical aspects of the work. Tasks will include reactor modelling and optimization including path optimization, kinetic modelling and regression, kinetic studies and experimental catalysis work. The appointment has a duration of 3 years with the possibility of until 1-year extension with 25% teaching duties in agreement with the department.

Qualifications

For all the positions we seek candidates with a strong background in Chemical Engineering, or similar competence.

The successful candidate should be creative, with a strong ability to work problem oriented. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams. He/she will need to work both independently and cooperate with other group members.

All positions requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skills by an approved test. Approved tests are TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English(CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

Specific for the PhD position

The regulations for PhD programmes at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) for the two last years of the MSc is required. Applicants must agree to participate in organized doctoral study programs within the period of the appointment and have to be qualified for the PhD-study.

Terms of employment

The appointments will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.

The positions as Post doctor and PhD are remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
