Postdoctoral position in neuroimaging at the Department of Psychology

There is a temporary position available at the Department of Psychology as postdoctoral fellow in multimodal neuroimaging for a period of 2 years, without teaching duties. The position as postdoctoral fellow is a fixed-term position with the primary goal of qualifying for work in professional academic chair positions.

The Department of Psychology currently has approximately 110 employees and 1100 students. The Department holds a large and diverse research community covering a variety of disciplines within psychology, and offers studies at the bachelor-, master- and PhD level in addition to a study programme in clinical psychology. The Department also has three outpatient clinics that offer outpatient treatment as part of the educational programme in clinical psychology. In addition, the Department participates in extensive local, national and international research collaborations. Our research ambition is to be internationally and nationally leading in various disciplines of psychology.

The postdoctoral fellow will work at the Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory (CNL) at the Department of Psychology, headed by Associate professor Alexander Olsen. CNL focuses on investigating the consequences of brain injury and disease as well as the effects of treatment and neurorehabilitation by combining advanced neuroimaging and brain stimulation techniques with wearable sensor technologies, neurocognitive assessments, and clinical measures.

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for organizing and analysing existing and new functional and structural MRI datasets from CNL projects, as well as writing scientific papers based on this material. 

The postdoctoral fellow will have a key role in our research activities linked to the ENIGMA Brain Injury working group. ENIGMA is a framework with harmonized protocols for data processing and analysis across multiple sites and cohorts. Within the ENIGMA Brain Injury working group there are subgroups based on patient population and injury circumstances: Military Brain Injury (led by David Tate and Elisabeth Wilde), Pediatric Moderate/Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (msTBI) (led by Emily Dennis, Karen Caeyenberghs, and Elisabeth Wilde), Sports Concussion (led by David Baron and Inga Koerte), and the newly formed Adult Moderate/Severe TBI (led by Alexander Olsen and another researcher to be determined). Currently there are also several other new subgroups forming, making ENIGMA Brain Injury a large-scale and global effort.

The postdoctoral fellow will work in close collaboration with our world-wide partners, including the leader of ENIGMA Brain Injury, Emily Dennis, at the Imaging Genetics Center, University of Southern California. Duties will include occasional travel to recruit and coordinate with collaborators.

Qualifications
The requirement for the position is a completed Norwegian PhD, or a completed foreign PhD approved as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD. To be considered for the position, the defence of the PhD thesis must have been completed and approved within the application deadline. For this position, the candidate must have a PhD in neuroimaging, computer science, bioinformatics, medicine, neuroscience, psychology or equivalent. The candidate must have demonstrated strong skills in one or more areas of neuroimaging and/or other forms of advanced data analysis.

In the assessment of the candidates, the following qualifications will be emphasized:

  • Documented skills in programming (e.g. Matlab, Python, shell scripting etc.)
  • Previous experience with advanced analytic techniques (e.g. multivariate approaches, machine learning, graph theory etc.).
  • Prior experience in engaging with an international network
  • Strong theoretical and conceptual knowledge within clinical and/or cognitive neuroscience
  • Documented skills in writing manuscripts, and a strong publication track record within the relevant field.
  • Personal qualifications will be emphasized, and we prefer candidates who have excellent cooperation skills, the ability to carry out flexibility and motivation to contribute to a good work environment.
  • Recommendations/references.

Proficiency in oral and written English is required.

Employment will be activated in accordance to existing regulations of 31.01.2006 with NTNUs supplementary purviews of 17.06.2009.

Salary and Working Conditions
The position as Postdoctor (code 1352) is paid according to the national salary scheme 24, from gross NOK 490 900 per year, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks. Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.
