Post Doctor research position in biophysics and drug delivery

A Post doc position within the field of biophysics and ultrasound mediated drug delivery is available at the Department of Physics, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU. The appointment has a duration of minimum 2 years with possible extension of 1 year related to teaching and supervision of students depending on the candidate’s background and the Department of Physics needs. The position is financed by the Research Council of Norway.

Information about the department
The position is organized in the Department of Physics. Currently, there are 27 professors, 10 associate professors, 7 adjunct professors, 70 PhD research fellows and 24 postdoctoral researchers appointed at the Department of Physics. The Department’s research spans a broad spectrum of natural sciences and technology, which in turn allows us to offer an education that provides a solid basis for future careers. Physics research is carried out in experimental as well as theoretical fields, often across conventional boundaries between disciplines trough external collaborations. The Department’s central research areas are biophysics, nanoscience, surface physics, modern optics, astrophysics, solar energy, materials science, soft matter physics, and medical technology. Research staff at the Department makes a special effort to increase the awareness and understanding of the importance and impact of physics in society.

Job description
The post doc will work on the project “Acoustic Cluster Therapy (ACT) for improved treatment of cancer and brain diseases”. This project is a collaboration with the company Phoenix Solutions who has developed a platform for ultrasound-mediated delivery of drugs and nanoparticles. A major challenge in cancer therapy is to obtain adequate delivery of the therapeutic agents to cancer cells, and limit the systemic exposure. The explored concept utilizes a microbubble/microdroplet system and ultrasound to improve the delivery of drugs and nanoparticles to tumor tissue and across the blood-brain barrier. ACT show promising preclinical results, and the aim of this project is to understand the mechanisms. The successful applicant should be highly competent, motivated and ambitious, and have demonstrated collaboration skills and ability to work independently. The candidate should have a PhD in biophysics, bionanotechnology, biotechnology or related disciplines. The applicants must have broad experimental experience. Experience from work with laboratory animals/FELASA certificate or equivalent is required. Preferably, the applicants should have good knowledge within ultrasound technology and ultrasound imaging as well as microscopy and image analysis.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are important, and the applicant should speak and write English.

Terms of employment
The appointment of the Post doctor will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.

The position as Post doctor is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
