Post-doctoral position in chemical kinetic modeling of ammonia/H2 mixtures (IV- 9/18)
Post-doctoral position in chemical kinetic modeling ammonia/H2 mixtures is available at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering (EPT) within the Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Energy research groups. The position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council through the Climit program, as well as industrial partners Statoil and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB in Sweden. The work is part of the BIGH2 III project lead by Sintef Energy.
State-of-the-art gas turbine power plants and off-shore installations are efficient, complex machines optimised to burn natural gas usually at constant load. However, they have the potential to be both fuel flexible and operationally flexible. The effects of carbon free fuels, such as ammonia-hydrogen mixtures, are potentially relevant to CCS applications but chemical mechanisms have yet to be developed. You will join an active research group in gas turbine combustion and combustion modelling and will work under the supervision of Professor Terese Løvås focusing on combustion modelling and chemical kinetics of ammonia/H2 mixtures. The BIGH2 III project also includes researchers investigating the combustion instabilities and dynamics of ammonia/H2 mixtures under supervision of Professors Nicholas Worth, Jonas Moeck and James Dawson. The research will be carried out in close collaborations with Drs Andrea Gruber and Mario Diteranto of Sintef energy.
As an experienced researcher, you will take a leading role in a research project with a focus on the development of chemical kinetic models for combustion of ammonia and hydrogen mixtures. This involves the development and optimisation of detailed chemical mechanisms, and subsequently reduction of the models using advanced model reduction techniques for implementation into high fidelity simulation tools such as direct numerical simulations. The research will be undertaken with access to high performance computing facilities on national and international level. The primary aim of the project is to identify adequate and reliable chemical models for hydrogen/ammonia mixtures that behave similarly to methane over a range of pressures.
The successful candidate;
- Completed or be very near completion of a PhD in a subject in combustion or chemical engineering
- Ideally have experience in mechanism development and model reduction techniques for combustion applications.
- Experience with ammonia and hydrogen kinetics is advantageous.
- Expected to have a good publication record based on their career to date.
- A strong proficiency in one or more computing languages such as Matlab, Maple, Fortran, or C etc. is essential.
Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 485,700 per annum before tax. There will be a 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross wage.
The appointment of the Postdoctoral fellows will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.
The Postdoctoral fellowship is awarded for 2 years.
For further information, please contact Professor Terese Løvås, email@example.com
