2 POST DOC POSITIONS IN MATERIALS SCIENCE – IN SITU STUDIES DURING WET CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF NANOSTRUCTURED PIEZOELECTRIC MATERIALS

Two post doc positions in the field of wet chemical synthesis of functional piezoelectric materials are available. The positions are funded by the Toppforsk project “From aqueous solutions to oxide thin films and hierarchical structures”, which aims for a fundamental breakthrough in aqueous based synthesis of oxide nanomaterials, particularly lead-free piezoelectrics. The Toppforsk funding is a targeted initiative by The Research Council of Norway for providing substantial, long-term funding to research groups that have the potential to become international leaders in their field. The aim of the project is to develop novel in situ X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy techniques to investigate the nucleation and growth of piezo- and ferroelectric oxide thin films, nanorods and hierarchical nanostructures during aqueous chemical based synthesis in order to provide guidelines to control the nucleation and growth processes. Parts of the work will take place at international large infrastructure facilities like ESRF in Grenoble.

The applicants must hold a PhD in materials chemistry, materials science or similar. Candidates with documented expertise in wet chemical synthesis of functional oxide materials, solid state chemistry including X-ray diffraction, total scattering and electron microscopy are desired. Documented experience from in situ X-ray diffraction or other relevant techniques is an advantage. We search for persons that are creative, innovative and can work independently. The persons we are searching for have good communication skills and are able to collaborate with other researchers in the project as well as international collaborators. The candidates must provide evidence of the ability to publish scientific papers.

The appointment of a Postdoc will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. The position as postdoctoral researcher is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution. The post doc period 2.5 years with the possibility of 6 months extension with teaching duties in agreement with the department.
