The Department of Psychology is one of seven units of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and has 75 permanent and 70 temporary members of scientific staff. Degrees are offered at bachelor and master level, plus a clinical training programme, and the PhD programme has 140 students.
Associate Professor Tenure-track position /Professor in Statistics/biostatistics
An associate professor (tenure-track) or a Professor position is available at the Research Center for Lifespan Changes in Brain and Cognition (LCBC) at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo.
We are looking for a highly motivated and very talented (bio)statistician, with a special interest in the analysis of complex high-dimensional longitudinal data. For the first 5 years, the candidate is exempt from teaching duties. Instead, the candidate is expected to play a central role in the scientific programme of LCBC, including (co-)supervision of PhD students, advising and collaboration with researchers at LCBC. A 3 years PhD or post doc fellow can follow the present position.
The Center for Lifespan Changes in Brain and Cognition
LCBC is a world renowned multi-disciplinary research center, with a staff of 25 full time positions, including three faculty professors, 5 Post-doctoral fellows, 9 PhD candidates, 3 programmers/ engineers, as well as 4 full-time RAs, supporting personnel and several affiliated researchers. Three international professors are affiliated with the group (Heidi Johansen-Berg, Oxford; Lars Nyberg, Umeå; Ragnhildur Karadottir, Cambridge). LCBC coordinates a large H2020 EU-project (2017-2022, 10.7 mill €) and has obtained three ERC grants. Further funding comes from the Norwegian Research Council, the National Health Association, the Thon foundation and the University of Oslo. In 2015 LCBC obtained the status as “world leading centre” as one of five at the University of Oslo, with special funding for five years. LCBC research is aimed at describing changes in cognitive function throughout life, and determining which variables can explain and predict these changes. We have unique large databases of longitudinal neurocognitive data. These include cognitive test scores, brain imaging, genetics, a wide variety of somatic and health variables, demographics, inventory data etc. In total, more than 2000 participants from 4 to 90+ years have been followed over up to 10 years. In order to analyse in full these and other relevant data, we need a highly competent and motivated statistician who will work with us in order to obtain stronger and more profound results.

The candidate is expected to work closely with other researchers at LCBC as well as with our international collaborators.
Instead of teaching, which usually amounts to roughly 50% of the time, and as part of her/his duties, the candidate will advise, supervise and collaborate with the other LCBC staff, offering best practice statistical and computational approaches, but also finding solutions subject to practical constrains and time restrictions.
In addition, the candidate will lead own research lines within LCBC which require the development of new statistical methodologies.
The ideal candidate must have completed his/her PhD in statistics or in a related discipline. For the professor position, she/he has an excellent track record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals. For the associate professor position, the position is a tenure track position.
The candidate has started to build her/his track record in this direction.
The candidate is highly ambitious and truly aims to make significant contributions to research at the LCBC center. The candidate needs to master or to acquire rapidly competence in the mentioned areas of modern statistics.
