The Department of Informatics (IFI) is one of nine departments belonging to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo. IFI is Norway’s largest university department for general education and research in Computer Science and related topics. The Department has near 950 students on bachelor level, near 450 master students, and over 180 PhD students. The overall staff of the Department is close to 250 employees, about 200 of these are full time positions. The full time scientific staff is 60, mostly Full/Associate Professors.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Ultrasound/Signal Processing

A position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow is available at CIUS – Centre for Innovative Ultrasound Solutions.

The position will be for a period of 3 years. Starting date no later than 01.10.2017.

No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.

Project description

The project topic is ultrasound elastography with particular focus on the heart and the work will be done in collaboration with GE Vingmed Ultrasound. The position is available in the research Group for Digital Signal Processing and Image Analysis (DSB).

Centre for Innovative Ultrasound Solutions for healthcare, maritime, and oil & gas (CIUS) is one of the Norwegian Research Council centres for research-based innovation (SFI). We collaborate with Norwegian Industry, NTNU (host institution for CIUS), and HSN. Qualifications

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Applicants must hold a PhD or Master’s degree or equivalent in ultrasound imaging, physical acoustics, or applied physics/mathematics, including signal processing and should have good analytical and programming skills. For this project we will use our own programmable research ultrasound scanner as well as commercial equipment from corporate partners in the project. Besides technical skills, we are looking for a curious, ambitious candidate who is highly motivated to do research and contribute to the work done at our group. Good communication skills in both oral and written English are expected. We strongly encourage that the application is accompanied by a short cover letter explaining briefly how the applicant's background and education fit the goals and requirements of this project.

A good command of English is required.

Salary:

Position code 13252, Pay grade: NOK 512 700 - 569 000 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.
