Adjunct Professor (Professor II) - Environmental and Analytical Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Science of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applications for an adjunct professorship (Professor II). The position is for 5 years with a possibility for a prolongation. The position volume is 20 % of an ordinary professorship.

At present the Department of Chemistry has 12 professors, 9 associate professors, 3 adjunct professors, 10 post docs and about 18 PhD research fellows.
The academic and research activities at the Department of Chemistry cover the following disciplines: environmental and analytical, organic, inorganic structural and applied theoretical chemistry.

Job description and qualifications
The current position will be associated with the section/research groups of environmental and analytical chemistry. These groups have extensive national and international collaboration networks which cover fundamental studies on turn-over and mobility of, and interactions between, chemical substances, such as pollutants, nutrients and metals, in the environment, i.e. air, water, soil and food chains. These activities also include the development of analytical methods pertaining to the studies being undertaken. The department´s research strategy specifically includes measures that strengthen activities in marine studies with the emphasis being directed towards the High North (ie, the subpolar and polar regions). The successful candidate will have expertise that focuses on environmental biogeochemical and/or biochemical processes as well as competence in analysing pollutants. To these ends, it is advantageous to have experience in using the tools that map chemical analysis data (an example being ArcGIS) and expertise in statistically processing data by means of multivariate methods (PCA).
The successful candidate is expected to show a commitment to excellence in teaching and to contribute to the development, design and delivery of elements of the department´s teaching programme and in particular will be involved in teaching and research as defined by the interdisciplinary MSc Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry international Programme. Teaching duties within this area include supervising MSc/PhD students and also participating in courses where this is natural. The selected candidate is expected to collaborate with academic staff, outside the aforementioned group, in those research projects that contribute to the common effort aimed at acquiring external funding. It is therefore important that candidates submit a draft of their research activities and show how these are relevant to ongoing activities at the Department and also set out ideas for specific responses to calls from national and international funding agencies.
The successful candidate will have an established record in high quality research within environmental and analytical chemistry. He/she should also document strong scientific competence within one or several disciplines connected to this position. Significant emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s ability to initiate and lead research and development activities. The preferred candidate will have already demonstrated the ability or potential to build and lead research programmes aimed at gaining external funding, both through national and European sources.
Significant emphasis will be placed on teaching and communication skills. Evaluation of the applicants will be based on documented materials, including pedagogical training, presentation of academic work, previous experience from supervision and teaching of master level and PhD candidates, as well as other related skills. Quality and scope will be evaluated.
Academic staff that is unable to document formal pedagogical qualifications in university-level teaching is required to successfully complete a recognized one-day course that gives a pedagogical qualification in university-level teaching.

Terms of employment
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations for State Employees and Civil Servants.
The Adjunct Professor is obliged to adhere to regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at the University. The position as Professor II is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. NTNU expressively invites applications from qualified female scientists.
