PhD position within Scaling and Uncertainty Modelling in multiphase production (SUM) (IV-107/17)
As part of the research project Scaling and Uncertainty Modelling in multiphase production (SUM) we announce one PhD position available August 1, 2017.
The primary objective of SUM is to develop a systematic methodology for uncertainty quantification to be used with multiphase transport simulation tools. To support the development of the methodology, and support improved model fidelity, the project will provide the high quality experimental data needed to establish uncertainty bounds with respect to scaling effects. The project is a collaboration between IFE, SINTEF, and NTNU, combining world-leading competence on fundamental and applied knowledge of multiphase flows with NTNU's strong competence in sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification, and statistical analysis.
The aim of the PhD project is to develop and apply methods for uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis to predictions of multiphase pipeline flow in a multi-disciplinary team including multiphase flow modelling and experiments, sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification and statistics.
The applicants should have a relevant MSc-degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computational fluid dynamics / multiphase flows, or comparable competence. The application should also have experience with programming. Candidates completing their MSc-degree in the Spring 2017 are encouraged to apply.
Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must document a thorough knowledge of English (equivalent to a TOEFL score of 600 or more).
PhD Candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross NOK 432,300 before tax. There will be a 2 % deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross wage.
Engagement as a PhD Candidate is done in accordance with “Regulation concerning terms and conditions of employment for the posts of post-doctoral research fellow, research fellow, research assistant and resident”, given by the Ministry of Education and Research of 19.07.2010. The goal of the positions is to obtain a PhD degree. Applicants will engage in an organized PhD training program, and appointment requires approval of the applicants plan for a PhD study within three months from the date of commencement.
The successful candidate will be employed at and enrolled in the PhD program either at Department of Structural Engineering or at Department of Mathematical Sciences according to his/her interests and background.
For further information, please contact Leif Rune Hellevik (+47 73594535, e-mail email@example.com ) or Ingelin Steinsland by (+47 73593533, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org ).
The position is 3 years, possibly 4 years duration with 25% teaching duties.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The positions adhere to the Norwegian Government's policy of balanced ethnicity, age and gender. Women are encouraged to apply.
The application must contain information of educational background and work experience. Certified copies of transcripts and reference letters should be enclosed. Applications with CV, grade transcripts and other enclosures should be submitted via this webpage at www.jobbnorge.no. Mark the application with IV-107/17.
Start-up date will be August 1, 2017.
Application deadline is 1.May 2017
According to the new Freedom of Information Act, information concerning the applicant may be made public even if the applicant has requested not to be included in the list of applicants.
