PhD Candidate Fellow position in analog integrated circuit design available at CIUS
The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (http://www.ntnu.edu/ie) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) (http://www.ntnu.edu) has a vacancy for a 100% position as a Research fellow at the Department of Electronic Systems (IES) (http://www.ntnu.edu/ies).
The Centre for Innovative Ultrasound Solutions (CIUS) for health care, maritime, and oil & gas applications seeks an outstanding and creative PhD Candidate. The PhD position is for up to 4 years with 25% work duties at IET and 75% to be devoted to research and research training.
CIUS is a Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) (www.ntnu.edu/cius), appointed by the Norwegian Research Council where industry, healthcare providers, independent research organizations and academia will collaborate to develop next generations’ ultrasound solutions. Industrial partners include GE Vingmed Ultrasound, Kongsberg Maritime, Statoil, Archer - BTC (Bergen Technology Centre), Medistim, Aurotech Ultrasound, Phoenix Solutions, X-FAB, Sensorlink, Halfwave, and InPhase Solutions. Research partners include SINTEF, St. Olavs University Hospital, Central Norway Regional Health Authority (HMN - [Helse Midt-Norge]), the Nord-Trøndelag Hospital Trust (including Levanger Hospital), and Levanger and Verdal municipalities.
Information about the department
Currently IES employs 22 professors, 20 adjunct professors/associate professors, 65 PhD students and 14 post doctors/scientists.
IES has the principal responsibility for education and research in electronics at NTNU. IES encompasses research and education within the areas of photonics, electronic devices and materials, acoustics, radio systems, signal processing, circuit and systems design.
The available research position is related to the development of next-generation front-end ultrasound imaging electronics and focus on the design of analog integrated circuits. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team of people from different engineering fields, and in close collaboration with clinical and industry partners.
Research projects are available in both medical and industrial applications of ultrasound imaging.
We seek highly motivated individuals holding a master’s degree or equivalent education, with an academic record with a weighted average grade of B or higher, in accordance with NTNU’s grading system. Candidates that are finishing their degree in 2016 are also welcome to apply.
The candidate is expected to have good knowledge and experience in the design of analog integrated circuits. Candidates with prior knowledge and experience in ultrasound technology will be preferred.
The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skills by an approved test.
There will be a strong emphasis on the academic quality of the applicants. The successful candidate is expected to work independently, but need excellent interpersonal skills to work successfully in interdisciplinary research teams.
Appointments are made in accordance with the regulations in force regarding terms of employment for PhD candidates issued by the Ministry of Education and Research, with relevant parts of the additional guidelines for appointment as a PhD candidate at NTNU. Applicants must undertake to participate in an organized PhD program of study during their period of employment. The person who is appointed must comply with the conditions that apply at any time to employees in the public sector. In addition, a contract will be signed regarding the period of employment.

The position is in code 1017 Stipendiat, will normally be placed at salary level 50-62 in the Norwegian State salary scale, and typically in salary level 50-57, gross NOK 435 100 - 488 900 per year, depending on qualifications. A deduction of 2 % is made as a statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
