NTNU - knowledge for a better world

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) creates knowledge for a better world and solutions that can change everyday life.

PhD position in Nanotechnology

A PhD position is available at the Department of Chemistry. The appointment has a duration of 4 years with 25% teaching duties at NTNU Nanolab.  The position is financed by NTNU and will involve the development of new lithographic patterning methods for organic devices. The project will seek to develop controlled methods for defining micro- and nano-scale features in thin metal and semiconductor films, with a view to fabricating novel organic devices with superior optoelectronic performance to conventional macro-scale organic devices.

Information about the department
The current research fields at the Department includes organic chemistry, analytical and environmental chemistry and applied theoretical chemistry. Further information is available at: http://www.ntnu.edu/chemistry

Job description
The theme of the PhD research is the fabrication of micro- and nano-scale optoelectronic devices. We are seeking a person with experimental background
in nanotechnology and with knowledge of lithography and material characterization techniques. Knowledge of organic devices is an advantage. The position is located at NTNU in Trondheim Norway, but will involve short stays at Imperial College London.
Start date: between 15. August-15.September 2017.

Detailed information on our PhD programs can be found at:  http://www.ntnu.edu/nt/research/phdPh

Qualifications
The applicant must have an MSc (or equivalent) in nanotechnology/chemistry/physics and a documented solid background from experimental nanotechnology. Experience with different methods for metal deposition, lithography and morphological/characterisation methods will be considered an advantage.

The successful candidate should be creative, with a strong ability to work problem oriented. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams.

The regulations for PhD programs at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) for the two last years of the MSc is required. Candidates from universities outside Norway are kindly requested to send a Diploma Supplement or a similar document, which describes in detail the study and grade system and the rights for further studies associated with the obtained degree:
