The University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and highest rated institution of research and education with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. Its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally esteemed research communities make UiO an important contributor to society.

The Department of Biosciences (IBV) is a research and education department at the University of Oslo. The Department has one Centre of Excellence and four research sections. The Department has 52 faculty members and associate professors, and approximately 190 PhD students, post docs and researchers, in addition to technical and administrative staff. The working environment is international, and scientists from over 30 countries contribute to the working environment. The Department aims to maintain high international standards both within research and teaching.
IBV offers research-based education within several aspects of bioscience, including ecology, behavioural ecology, evolution, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, biomedicine, genetics, bioinformatics and biotechnology. Around 380 students are enrolled in bachelor’s programs, and 90 in master’s programs.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Epigenetics and Chromatin Dynamics

Position as Postdoctoral Research fellow available at Department of Biosciences.

The fellowship will be for a period of up to 3 years with 10 % compulsory work.

Starting date 01.09.17 and no later than 01.10.2017. No one can be appointed for more than one specified period at the same institution.

Project description:

A three-year postdoctoral research fellowship, on a project funded by the Norwegian Research Council, is available in the field of epigenetics. This project focuses on the mechanisms underlying chromatin interactions and gene regulation. Changes in protein associations are very influential in regulation of chromatin structure and thereby gene expression. To elucidate these mechanisms the candidate will use genetic, biochemical and genome-wide approaches such as immunohistochemistry, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP-Seq), gene knockdown, immunoprecipitation, genome-engineering using CRISPR-Cas9 system, Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization and live-cell imaging. For more information, see

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree molecular biology or cell biology or biochemistry.

We are looking for a highly competent candidate with strong experimental background in molecular biology that can work independently and is able to collaborate in a research team. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience with a broad range of methods in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry including mammalian tissue culture and embryonic stem cells, live-cell imaging and confocal microscopy. Experience with 3C technology and/or bioinformatics is an advantage. We offer broad training possibilities in the required experimental methods within a stimulating academic environment.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
