2 PHD POSITIONS WITHIN LITHIUM ION BATTERY TECHNOLOGY

There are two available PhD position at the department of Material Science and Engineering within Li-ion battery technology. The positions are part of the new Norwegian Research Centre on Zero Emission Energy Systems (MoZEES), which is a large national collaboration focusing on battery and hydrogen technology for transport applications.
 
One position is intended to work with Si anodes and ionic liquid electrolytes. Focus will be on characterization of solid electrolyte interphase, investigation of structural evolution in silicon during cycling, as well as modification of the Si and electrolyte to improve stability of the electrodes. The topic for the other position is synthesis of cathode materials suitable for higher voltages by developing coatings and materials with hierarchical structures. The focus will be on water-based chemistry and eco-friendly synthesis methods.
The candidates will be part of a research group working with various types of battery technology and will also be working with the other partners involved in MoZEES.

The applicant should hold a Master of Science (MSc) degree or similar in one of the following areas or another related area: Chemistry, electrochemistry, nanotechnology, material science, physics. Candidates with experience from practical laboratory work relevant to the given project and/or materials chemistry will be preferred. We search for a person that is creative, innovative and can work independently. The applicant should have good communication skills and be willing to collaborate with other researchers in the cross-disciplinary group of people connected to this research center.

The regulations for PhD programs at NTNU state that the applicant must have a master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) and C or better on the BSc. Applicants must agree to participate in organized doctoral study programs within the period of the appointment. A contract will be drawn up regarding the period of appointment and work related duties.

The appointment of the PhD will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

All applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English (in speaking and writing). Applicants must indicate their level of language skills in English and Norwegian.

PhD scholarship recipients are employed for three years in the position. The position as PhD is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
