NTNU - knowledge for a better world
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) creates knowledge for a better world and solutions that can change everyday life.
Two postdoctoral fellow positions within Flexibility Management and Energy Storage Planning in Local Power Systems
The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, http://www.ntnu.edu/ie at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has vacancies for up to two 100% positions as Post Doctoral Researchers at Department of Electric Power Engineering (IEL) http://www.ntnu.edu/elkraft
The duration of the posts is up to 2 years.
Information about the department
Currently there are 9 professors and 8 associate professors at the department. In addition, there are 7 adjunct associate professors, 7 postdoctoral researchers, approx. 30 PhD students. Research activities are organized into two groups: Power systems and Power Technology.
Information about the positions
The available positions are linked to the new European H2020 project INVADE - Smart system of renewable energy storage based on INtegrated EVs and bAtteries to empower mobile, Distributed and centralised Energy storage in the distribution grid.
INVADE aims to deliver a Cloud based flexibility management system integrated with EVs and batteries empowering energy storage at mobile, distributed and centralised levels to increase renewables share in the smart distribution grid. The project integrates different components: flexibility management system, energy storage technologies, electric vehicles and novel business models. Within this project, the Department of Electric Power Engineering at NTNU is in charge of providing insights on planning and operating optimization of energy storage in connection with renewables, investment planning of grids, large scale integration of renewable energy sources in the distribution grids.
The postdoctoral fellows are expected to participate in the following tasks:
Analysis of the flexibility alternatives in distribution grids with high penetration of renewables and grid constraints
Assessment of the potential value of alternatives in the future with demand growth from EVs, renewables integration and distributed storage units
Energy storage units allocation/positioning and sizing algorithm (design and programming)
Design and program the flexibility management operation algorithm
The work will be performed in close cooperation with other researchers at the department as well as with the project partners.
