Postdoctor/Researcher in climate system modeling (IVT-133/16)

The Industrial Ecology Program (IndEcol) at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), has opened a two-year postdoctoral position in climate change and impact modeling. The candidate will add a complementary climate modeling profile to the IndEcol team, a well-established interdisciplinary group in the field of environmental sustainability analysis, with authors contributing to WGIII of the 5th IPCC assessment report, and with publications featured in high-ranked journals.

 

We seek a person that is strongly motivated to address the interactions between mitigation measures and the climate system, with a particular focus on the land-climate nexus. The candidate is expected to perform applied research on regional/global climate change impacts of alternative mitigation options embracing resource and ecosystem management. Tasks will include data processing and compilation, applications of models in simulating various land-use changes and climate change scenarios, quantification of impacts, analysis and validation of model results, presentation of results nationally and internationally, publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, we deem interest and ability to explore new fields and sub-fields important.

 

The successful candidate should hold a PhD in climate science, meteorology, biogeochemistry or biogeophysics, and be familiar with climate models. Candidates with a PhD in geo-informatics, applied physics and mathematics are also welcome to apply. Good programming skills in one or several languages (e.g., Python, Matlab, C, FORTRAN), in addition to good understanding of fundamentals in mathematics and physics, are expected. Previous experience with handling large datasets and land surface models or other components of earth system models is an advantage. Strong analytical capabilities are expected, as well as documented capacity to present research outcomes in peer-reviewed international journals. The candidate must be a good team player while also being able to work independently and bring the research at IndEcol in the field of climate change mitigation forward. The applicant must be excellent in English both written and orally.

 

The position is of 2 years duration. Depending on qualifications, the candidate will be hired as a postdoc or as a researcher. Trondheim is the place of duty.

Terms of employment

 

The appointment of the Postdoctoral fellow or Researcher will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

 

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, minimum gross amount NOK 485 700 per annum (before tax). There will be a 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross wage.
The Researcher position is remunerated in code 1109, minimum gross amount NOK 485 700 per annuum (before tax).  There will be a 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from grass wage.
