Through this project more data will be produced by analysing biological proxies from lakes on the islands South Georgia and Kerguelen. Palaeoecological archives will provide data on species and ecosystem response rates linked to climate change similar to what is predicted for the future. Lake sediments covering the Holocene time period is available to the project and some of the research questions to be covered are; how did vegetation, species distributions and biodiversity change during the last 10 000 years, can biological proxy data be used to reconstruct past climate, and can we interpret changes in the westerly winds on the southern hemisphere and the effects of natural climate change on the selected localities.
