The University of Stavanger (UiS) has about 12,000 students and 1,700 employees. We are the only Norwegian member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities. The university has high ambitions. We will have an innovative and international profile, and will be a driving force in knowledge development and in the process of societal change. Together with our staff and students, we will challenge the well-known and explore the unknown.

The Faculty of Arts and Education is the region's major educational institution for pedagogues to preschool, elementary school, high school, college and university. The faculty also offers basic education within language, religion, history, as well as eight master programs and two doctoral programs. The faculty collaborates with UiS Lifelong Learning, schools and school owners about continuing education.

Overall, the faculty has about 3,000 students and 320 employees at the Department of Early Childhood Education, Department of Education and Sports Science, Department of Cultural Studies and Languages, the National Centre for Reading Education and research (The Reading Center), and the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education (The Center for Learning Environment).

Through The Reading Center and The Center for Learning Environment, the faculty has a national position in research and education within the fields of reading and writing difficulties and behavioral problems.
