The museum has an academic staff with researchers in archeology, conservation, various natural sciences and more recent cultural history. The staff covers several fields within conservation, laboratories, photographic services, archives and scientific collections, management tasks under the Cultural Heritage Act, exhibition production, graphic design, school service and public involvment. The museum publishes two series of writings which are point-giving in CRIStin. The museum currently has a total of 75 permanent employees in four departments and in the museum administration.

Postdoctoral Fellow in archaeology

The University of Stavanger invites applications for a 2-year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in archaeology at the Museum of Archaeoloy. The position is vacant from 01.04.2019 or by agreement.

The successful research project will focus on Viking Period archaeology, and should base itself in the Viking Period collection at the Museum of Archaeology, in particular the rich collection of objects that represent external contacts. The aim of the project is to develop a better understanding of the Viking Period in Rogaland through an investigation of imported objects, viewing them from perspectives such as geopolitics and the transformation of meanings of objects.

The objective of the position is to strengthen research, and to give researchers/scholars holding a doctoral degree within relevant academic field(s) the opportunity for further qualification toward full professorship.

The applicant must submit a 5-7 page description of a research project and a plan for its completion. It must be clear from the application in what way the project will add to the applicant's competence.

The applications will be assessed in relation to the relevance, quality and feasibility of the project. In addition to an evaluation of their submitted project plan and scientific work, potential candidates will be invited to an interview.

Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis in appointments to academic positions at the university.

The research project will be carried out at the University of Stavanger. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the scholarly circles at the faculty and university.

The position salary is set according to the State Salary Code, 17.510, code 1352, of NOK 520.000 - 650.000,- per annum. In special cases, higher salaries may be considered. The position provides an automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favorable retirement benefits.
