Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Bioinformatics

There is a vacancy for a position as researcher in Computational Biology at the Department of Informatics. The position is for a fixed term period of 3 years.

About the project/work tasks

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. During the last decade, genome-wide association studies have identified hundreds of genetic risk loci for cardio-metabolic disease. An important task is now to understand the molecular mechanisms by which these loci exert CAD risk, and to translate these findings into new therapies and diagnostics. In the STARNET study, genotype and RNA-sequencing data from vascular and metabolic tissues from 600 CAD patients have been generated.

The aim of this project is to exploit this resource by using machine learning methods to link genetic variants with alterations in transcript profiles and gene networks that are causally linked to CAD, and to discover candidate compounds targeting these networks by mining libraries of transcriptional response signatures to small-molecule perturbations.

The successful applicant will work as part of an international team of researchers at the University of Bergen, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt Sinai and the Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre at Karolinska Institute, with numerous opportunities for collaboration. For more information about the research group, see

The position also consists of duty work related to teaching, recruitment or dissemination, approximately 20 % distributed across the employment period.
