Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Administration and Organization Theory
At the University of Bergen, there is a vacancy for a 4 year postdoctor position at Department of administration and organization theory. The position is connected to the research and innovation the project: TROPICO – Transforming into Open Innovative and Collaborative Governments. TROPICO is funded by the Horizon 2020 framework program of the European Union.
The TROPICO project examines how governments and public administrations in Europe work and transforms to enhance collaboration in policy design and service delivery, advancing the participation of public, private and societal actors. Central to the project is how digitalization, information and communications technologies (ICT), and new digital tools contribute to collaboration – in public administration, between government and citizens, and between public administration and organizations in the private or the voluntary sectors. The TROPICO project includes multiple and comparative case studies from several countries, including Norway, and will conduct interviews with and questionnaires to experts and those working in or with the public administration.

Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must hold a PhD in public administration, political science or in the social sciences. You must therefore have submitted your doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded.
- You must have excellent collaborative skills, a high working capacity, and you will be expected to contribute to the TROPICO project.
- You must be able to work independently and in a structured manner.
- You must be proficient in English (both written and oral)
About the position:
The postdoctoral research position is a fixed-term appointment. The fixed-term period for this position is 4 years. 1 year of this period (25% of the position) is designated for duties such as teaching/supervision, dissemination and administration. Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution.

As a Postdoctor in TROPICO you will be part of an established network of PhDs, postdoctors, and senior researchers from 10 European countries. You will also be a part of a research group at the Department of administration and organization theory.
Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their project proposal and its fit with the TROPICO project, the candidate’s interest in the project’s topic, and the quality of publications and submitted writing samples.
Potential candidates will be invited to the department for an interview or we will arrange for an interview on Video/Skype in September/October.
About the project proposal:
A project proposal of 4-5 pages must accompany the application. The plan should outline the ideas and ambitions of the applicant, and should reflect a relation to the TROPICO project. Ideally, it contains a progress plan for the different parts of the research work, as well as a publication plan.

Salary at pay grade 59-61 (code 1352) on the government salary scale upon appointment (equivalent to NOK 515 200 – 534 100,- per year). Further promotions are made according to length of service in the position.
