Associate Professor in Information Science

There is a vacancy for a permanent associate professor position in information science at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies.

 

The Department of Information Science and Media Studies (www.uib.no/infomedia) was established in 2004 by merging the former Department of Information Science and Department of Media Studies. The staff counts about 80 people, including 30 permanent faculty members and approximately 20 PhD and postdoc positions. The Department offers separate Bachelor- and Master-programs in both information science and media studies, as wells as programs in Film and TV-production, Journalism and media- and interaction design located in the recently established media cluster Media City Bergen. The department is also affiliated with Finance Innovation, a finance technology cluster located in Bergen.

 

The information science research at the department is organized in three research groups: Interaction Research Group, Semantic and Social Information Systems, and Logic, information and interaction.

Work tasks/research field:

For this position we are looking for candidates within the field of information systems, information system development and/or software development. Competences within empirical studies of information systems and system development will be appreciated. We encourage applicants to relate to on-going research at The Department in this area, e.g. agile system development, computer-supported cooperative work, or information systems with big data. The successful candidate will teach at all levels in the information science program, but is also expected to contribute in developing our courses in particular in the area of information systems and system development.

 

 

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must have a doctoral degree in information science or equivalent.

  • Applicants ought to display an ability to publish research at a high international level beyond their PhD dissertation.

  • The evaluation of the applicant’s scientific work will focus primarily on research published the last five years.

  • The applicants must be willing and able to teach compulsory courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.

  • Personal aptitude will be of great importance. Cooperative skills, as well as future plans for research, and ambitions when it comes to teaching will be of added value.

  • Basic pedagogical training is a requirement for the position. The successful applicant will be offered training if this requirement is not met prior to employment.

 

The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant will be required to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years of being appointed.

 

We can offer:

  • A good and professionally challenging working environment.
  • Salary at pay grade 65 - 70 (code 1011/ Pay range 24) in the state salary scale. This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 568 600 – 623 500 before taxes. Further increase in salary will depend on seniority. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly well qualified applicant.
  • Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund and good welfare benefits.
