The Norwegian Node – ELIXIR Norway – is lead from the University of Bergen and is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the five partner institutions (University of Bergen, University of Oslo, Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU, University of Tromsø and Norwegian University of Life Sciences – NMBU). ELIXIR provides services within bioinformatics to users all over the world. The Norwegian Node is responsible for some of these services and offers also a broader spectrum of services towards Norwegian users (Norwegian BioInformatics Platform)

The service scientist will be part of the help desk of ELIXIR Norway and within the Service group at the Computational Biology Unit. The position is directed towards analysis of high-throughput data from technologies such as NGS sequencing and proteomics as well as more general bioinformatics analysis projects.

Work tasks:

  • Assist research groups in experiment design and planning of high-throughput omics experiments, as well as perform data analysis of resulting data sets either on behalf of or in close collaboration with the end users of the ELIXIR Norway help desk.

  • Guide and train users to select appropriate bioinformatics tools and databases to solve their data analysis needs.

  • Collaborate with partnering research infrastructures (i.e. within NGS sequencing, proteomics, biobanks) to offer coordinated services to end users.

  • Contribute to testing of the national e-infrastructure developed in the bioinformatics platform and ELIXIR2, and participate in shaping its development.
