The University of Stavanger (UiS) has about 12,000 students and 1,600 employees. We are the only Norwegian member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities. The university has high ambitions. We will be a driving force in the development of knowledge in the region, and an international research university with an emphasis on innovation. Together with our staff and students, we will challenge the well-known and explore the unknown.

Department of Cultural Studies and Languages, which is part of the Faculty of Arts and Education, is responsible for the university's new lector program and practical pedagogical education. The Institute also offers programs in Nordic, English, Religion and History as well as master's programs in History Didactics, Reading Science and Literacy Studies. In cooperation with other departments at the faculty, the Department of Cultural Studies and Languages also offers a doctoral education in Reading Science/Literacy Studies. There are currently 70 employees and 890 students at the department.
