The Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics (BFE) consists of Department of Arctic and Marine Biology, Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NFH) and School of Business and Economics. The main task of BFE is to conduct teaching and research dissemination at a high national and international level within all relevant fields. Prioritized research areas are aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, climate, life in the arctic, marine bioprospecting, fish health, seafood products, business and macroeconomics, resources and environment, markets and management of marine resources. The interdisciplinary profile of the faculty provides good opportunity to develop research projects involving several research groups at the faculty according to its strategy.


Three positions as associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Business Economics

The Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics (BFE), UiT The Arctic University of Norway has three positions vacant as Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Business Economics with the possibility of an interim appointment. The positions are attached to the School of Business and Economics at UiT in Alta.

 

The School of Business and Economics undertakes research and research-based teaching of high national and international quality, drawing on the competence of local industry. The integration of teaching and research creates a dynamic academic environment for students and employees. The School of Business and Economics has an international focus with the Northern Circumpolar Region as a basis and is organized with campus in respectively Tromsø, Alta, Harstad and Narvik.

The positions field of research/field of work

The position involves research, academic development and teaching at both the bachelor and master level within the broad field of business economics. The School of Business and Economics is especially interested in applicants with a background in one or more of the following fields: business economics, marketing, management, organization and organizational psycology.

 

Qualification requirements

For appointments as Associate Professor, the minimum requirement is a Norwegian doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification within the field business economics, organization and psykology, marketing, or closely related fields.

 

For appointment as Senior Lecturer, the requirement is documented extensive research and development work corresponding in quality and scope to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis within the specified field.

For appointment as Lecturer the requirement is a Master of Science in Business (Norwegian Siviløkonom) or the equivalent from a university or a university college, relevant research qualifications above the level of a second (Master’s) degree and/or relevant professional practice within the specified field.

 

The applicants must document teaching qualifications by submitting a teaching portfolio. By exception, the committee may determine that the applicant’s practical teaching skills are of equal value to formal teaching qualifications. Emphasis will be attached to personal suitability.

 

Language

Applicants must have a good command of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language and a good command of English, both written and verbal. How to document languages proficiency

 

Working conditions

At UiT The Arctic University of Norway the allocation of working hours shall be flexible and allocated on a case by case basis.

 

As a general principle, an Associate Professor shall spend an equal amount of time on teaching and research and development work. An Senior Lecturer 30 % of his/her time on research and development work and 70 % on teaching and a Lecturer 20 % of his/her time on research and development and 80 % on teaching, after time spent on other duties has been deducted. As a norm the time resources spent on administrative duties constitutes 5 % for academic staff.

 

Moreover, applicants shall refer to the Guidelines for allocation of working hours in teaching and research positions (Only in Norwegian)

 

Employees in permanent positions as Associate Professor have the right to apply for a paid sabbatical (research and development), cf. Guidelines for the allocation of R&D sabbatical (Only in Norwegian).

 

The successful applicants must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.

 

The candidates will have their place of work at the School of Business and Economics in Alta. Teaching and supervision at UiT’s other campuses may be required.

 

The remuneration for an Associate Professor is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1011, Senior Lecturer (førstelektor) in accordance with the State salary scale code 1198 and Lecturer (universitetslektor) in accordance with the State salary scale code 1009. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.

 

Assessment

An expert committee will assess the applicants.

The applicants, who are assessed as the best qualified, will be called to an interview. The interview shall among other things aim to clarify the applicant’s personal suitability for the position.

A trial lecture may also be held.

 

Applicants bring original certificates/diplomas and reference letter(work) to a interview.

 

Interim appointment for position as Associate Professor

If there are no applicants who are clearly qualified for permanent appointment, a temporary appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made, cf. statsansatteloven § 9 and Section 6-5 (1) of the Act relating to universities and university colleges. A permanent appointment shall be made upon application before the three-year period elapses on the basis of a new evaluation. The appointment will become permanent if the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.

 

If a temporary appointment is on the basis of lacking teaching qualifications, the applicant must document teaching qualifications through developing a teaching portfolio before the three-year period elapses. The appointment will become permanent if the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.

 

Interim appointment for position as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer

If there are applicants who do not fulfil the requirements related to teaching qualifications, a temporary appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made. The applicant must have their teaching qualifications approved through developing a teaching portfolio before the three-year period elapses. The appointment will become permanent if the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.

 

Gender balance

UiT The Arctic University of Norway wishes to increase the proportion of females in senior research positions. In the event that two or more applicants are found to be approximately equally qualified, female applicants will be given priority.

Works- The applicants have to attach the published or unpublished work he/she wish the Committee be take into consideration during the assessment process.

 

In addition, the applicants shall provide a description of his/her scientific production stating which works he/she considers the most important and shall therefore be the main emphasis of the assessment. A brief description of the other listed works shall also be included to demonstrate depth of production. These descriptions shall be an attachment to the application.
