The University of Stavanger (UiS) has about 12,000 students and 1,600 employees. Faculty of Health Sciences offers a bachelor program in Nursing, master programs in Health Science with specialization in Drug Abuse, Mental Health, Aging/Elderly and optional in-depth study in Prehospital Services and in Nursing with specialization in Anesthesia, Intensive Care or Surgical Nursing. The faculty also offers research education (PhD) in Health and Medicine. Continuing education programs that educate as health nurse and cancer nurse are also available. The main research areas include Health Promotion in Chronic Ailments, Intoxication, Patient Safety, Professional Relationships, Next of Kin, Ethics and Quality of Life. The faculty organizes the Network for Medical Sciences, which is interdisciplinary and emphasizes health research. There are currently 100 employees including students and postdocs, and 1.000 students at the faculty.
