Associate professor position at the department of information science and media studies

There is a vacancy for a permanent associate professor position at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies within Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

 

The Department of Information Science and Media Studies (www.uib.no/infomedia) was established in 2004 by merging the former Department of Information Science and Department of Media Studies. The staff counts about 80 people, including 30 permanent faculty members and approximately 23 PhD and postdoc positions. The Department offers separate Bachelor- and Master-programs in both information science and media studies. There are also Bachelor programs in Film and TV-production, Journalism and media- and interaction design. The Department is partner in Media City Bergen, a media-cluster that opened in 2017 and facilitates research and education in the practices of media and media-technology.

 
The information science research at the department has three research groups: Interaction Research Group (IRG), Semantic and Social Information Systems (SSIS), and Logic, information and interaction. (LLI) The Interaction Research Group specializes in HCI, focusing on learning technology (Technology Enhanced Learning), health technology, and media technology. The group collaborates with SLATE - Center for the Science of Learning and Technology (www.slate.no) and has, amongst others, project collaborations with the media technology company Vizrt.

  

Work tasks/research field:

  • The hired candidate will be part of the Interaction Research Group and is expected to acquire external funding for research projects.

  • Further, the hired person will have responsibility for teaching courses on Interaction Design, HCI and front-end programming at Masters and Bachelor level, but should also be able to contribute teaching other subjects in information science.

      

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must have a doctoral degree within information science, computer science or equivalent qualifications.

  • Ability to publish research results within HCI at a high international level. In assessing the scientific work research from the five latest years will be emphasized.

  • Research plans and ambitions for teaching will be emphasized.

  • Experience from front-end programming, prototyping and evaluation of interactive technologies will be an advantage.

  • Work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to collaborate with others.

  • Experience from research management will be an advantage.

  • Basic pedagogical training is a requirement for teaching positions. Applicants should document pedagogical experience and training. If the successful candidate does not have pedagogical training it will be offered after employment.

The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant will be required to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years of being appointed.

  • Salary at pay grade 65-70 (code 1011/ Pay range 24 in the state salary scale. This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 568.600,- - 623.500,- before taxes. Further increase in salary will depend on seniority. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly well qualified applicant.
